This is the main character for game concept I'm working on in my spare time.
It is going to be a 3rd person sportsgame featuring van sized buglike robots.
I hope to eventually get this to run on the ipad so I have settled for a budget of around 2500 tris.
This model ended up at 2300 with a little to spare for special weapons, trophies and other add-ons.
The idea is to use this base model for alot of variants in color schemes and nurnies,
once I have a proof of concept running in the unity engine. A ton of animation and colorschemes still to be done. Updates to follow..
Model and temp rig done in modo, textures in photoshop.
The texture is going to be diffuse only, an is done with a mix of baked passes, photos and handpainting in photoshop. This map is set up so that the amount of damage can be changed and the yellow color can be replaced with a different color scheme when necessary.
The model has a simple IK rig for the legs with some extra handles for body rotation, prancing and other special moves.
I set up a basic walkcycle for testing and then played around with some poses for various moves like run, charge, attack etc.
Unfortunately the animation system in modo is a bit flimsy to export, so I will have to rebuild the rig in 3ds max before moving on. After that, a complete set of animations is first on the todo list.
